Magdalena Idzik

Magdalena Idzik is a mezzo-soprano. She graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. She continued her studies in Milan under Vittorio Terranova, and in London under Joy Mammen. She received the “Promotion of Talent” scholarship, which was awarded to her by the Ewa Czeszejko-Sochacka Foundation. In 2001 she completed the Rossini Academy in Italy under a great conductor Alberto Zedda.
She had her debut on stage of the Great Theatre – National Opera in the performance of Stanisław Moniuszko’s Songbook for Home Use directed by Maria Fołtyn. Since then she has widened her repertoire with mezzo-soprano parts from such operas as: Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (Olga), Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck (Hänsel), The Haunted Manor by S. Moniuszko (Jadwiga), The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Cherub), Janek by Władysław Żeleński (Marynka), La rondine (Suzy) and Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini (Kate) and The Journey to Reims (Maddalena) by Gioacchino Rossini. With the ensemble of the National Opera she performed guest appearances in Cyprus, Japan and Spain. Among her recent successes on stage in Warsaw are premiere performances in: The Magic Flute by W.A. Mozart (Lady II) and the vaudeville Superstition, or Cracowians and Highlanders by Karol Kurpiński (Zosia), and also in the premiere of The Magic Doremik by Marta Ptaszyńska (title part) and Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti (Alisa). Apart from that she has a rich oratorio and cantata, as well as song repertoire, which she successfully performs on philharmonic stages in Poland and abroad. She has been applauded by the audiences of concert halls on Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne, Luxemburg, Paris, Valencia, New York, Toronto and Tokyo. An important event in the singer’s career was when she participated in the performance of W.A. Mozart’s Requiem during a ceremonial concert for the Belgian Queen Fabiola on the 5th death anniversary of King Baudouin. She also took part in a concert in memory of Giuseppe Sinopoli (Pisa) and a festive gala The Stars for Europe under the baton of José Cura, an Argentinian tenor and conductor.
Magdalena Idzik is employed at the FCUM’s Chair of Vocal Studies, holding the post of Assistant.
