Grażyna Paciorek-Draus

Grażyna Paciorek-Draus is a theoretician of music, composer and teacher. She completed MA studies specialising in Composition, and Postgraduate Studies in Theory of Music at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (now the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music). She won the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and Art, as well as the Primus Inter Pares award. She continued her education by participating in international courses for young composers, organised by the Polish Contemporary Music Society, as well as courses and seminars in theory of music. She devoted her doctoral dissertation to piano pieces by Tomasz Sikorski and to the personality of this composer shown from the perspective of Kazimierz Dąbrowski’s Theory of Positive Disintegration.

She is employed at her parent University holding the post of Assistant Professor. She holds the function of Head of Aural Training and Harmony Lab as part of the Chair of Music Education. She is a qualified teacher of theoretical subjects at the Zenon Brzewski General Secondary Music School (the so-called “school of talents”) and the J. Elsner State Secondary Music School in Warsaw.

She is an organizer and juror of solfeggio and composition competitions for children and youth. She is an author of curricula, as well as a co-author of the new curriculum for ear training at secondary music schools.

As a composer she has presented her pieces at such events as: International Contemporary Music Festival “The Warsaw Autumn”, The Witold Lutosławski Forum, Musica Polonica Nova, as well as in France, Canada, USA, Holland and Chile, and on the radio and television in Poland and abroad. Her compositions have also been recorded on albums released by Acte Préalable and they have been nominated for the “Fryderyk” awards.

She gives lectures during workshops, seminars,  and open lessons for primary and secondary music school teachers and students of music academies. She also runs her original classes in music perception and interpretation, 20th century music, improvisation, memory techniques, as well as the Training in Artistic Self-Realization.

She cooperates with the Chair of Theory of Music, Chair of Music Acoustics, Unit of Psychology of Music and Interdepartmental Teaching Course at the FCUM, and also with the Centre of Education for Artistic School Teachers and the Cultura Animi Foundation.

She actively participates in scholarly sessions and conferences. She is an author of publications on theory and philosophy of music, music perception and interpretation, anthropology of culture, 20th century music, as well as teaching and music criticism. Her scholarly interests also cover music education, perception and interpretation of music, and the development of creative personality.

He has been honoured with numerous awards for academic, teaching and artistic achievements, e.g. for arrangements and poetry.
