Małgorzata Trzaskalik-Wyrwa

Born in Katowice, she graduated with honours from the State Secondary Music School, organ class of Monika Dąbrowska. She studied organ playing under Professor Magdalena Czajka and Professor Julian Gembalski. In 2002 she graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, obtaining a diploma with honours and an MA title in music on the basis of the performed recitals and a diploma thesis entitled “The issues concerning the protection and maintenance of organs in Poland” (supervised by Professor Jerzy Gołos).

She completed studies in Protection of Cultural Assets, specialising in conservation, at the Department of Fine Arts, N. Copernicus University in Toruń (1999–2004). Her MA exam in January 2005 was connected with the presentation of an 18-century regal, whose research, documentation and maintenance project were the subject of the thesis, and the performed conservation was an additional action so as to save the instrument.

In March 2011 Małgorzata Trzaskalik-Wyrwa obtained a doctoral degree in music arts, discipline: Instrumental Studies, specialty: Organ Playing. She devoted her doctoral thesis to the issues of compromise in music performance and organ and chamber pieces by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger.

She won the 2nd award at the All-Poland Auditions for Organ Class Students in Wrocław (1996) and the 2nd award at the International Organ Music Competition in Rumia (1999). She participated in numerous courses and festivals of organ music in Poland and abroad.

She twice won the scholarship of the Minister of Culture, in the discipline of protection of cultural assets (2003 and 2004) in connection with the programme of cataloguing of organs in the Siedlce Diocese.

Since 2002 she has been employed at the Diocese Curia of Siedlce, holding the function of inspector of organists and expert in organ instruments. Acting on behalf of the Curia and the Voivodship Offices of Protection of Historical Relics she was a conservation supervisor during renovations of historical organs.

Since 2000 she has taught organology and organ playing at the Diocese Church Music School in Siedlce, which she has headed since 2004.

Małgorzata Trzaskalik-Wyrwa is also President of the PRO MUSICA ORGANA Society promoting organ and organ music with special attention paid to the promotion of organ issues connected with the protection and maintenance of historical instruments. As part of her work for the Society she organizes the Autumn and Winter Organ Concerts in Katowice-Brynów (1999–2013), International Organ Workshops in Lower Silesia, as well as conferences, courses and discussion panels on the protection and care of historical instruments.

In the period of 2008–2010 she participated in the international research project concerning the preserved instruments by Joachim Wagner, connected with the conservation work on the organ by this author from 1744–45 which was found in Pruszyn near Siedlce; the instrument has a unique transmission system preserved in an original state. Currently it is owned by the Diocese of Siedlce. The work ended in December 2010 and since that time the instrument has enjoyed a vivid concert life animated by the PRO MUSICA ORGANA Society.

Since 2006 Małgorzata Trzaskalik-Wyrwa has conducted lectures in organology and organ chamber music at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
