Thanks to the agreement concluded with the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute, the most valuable collections from our Library will be shared as part of the programme called “The Polish Music Heritage with Open Access”.
Catalogued collections will also be available in the international database of music sources –Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM) – and the most valuable manuscripts will additionally be transcribed.
Among the selected manuscripts are the ones made by the first honorary professor of our institution – Ignacy Jan Paderewski, as well as other gems, such as The Singing School written for the Music Conservatory by Bonifacio Asioli, or manuscripts of Jean Baptiste Lully from the turn of the 18th century, which were probably brought to Poland by the opera ensemble of King Augustus II.
The selected printed scores include priceless first printings of works by Stanisław Moniuszko, 19th century editions of works by Fryderyk Chopin and rare editions of scores of other outstanding Polish composers or composers connected with Poland, and more.
The Programme “The Polish Music Heritage” is carried out by the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute using the EU funds (Operational Programme Digital Poland) and it assumes the arrangement of Polish music works written in the period between the 16th and the end of the 19th centuries. One of its elements is the digitalisation and online sharing of priceless manuscripts and printings kept at selected institutions, such as the Library of the Warsaw Music Society, Library of the Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka or the Archive of Pauline Fathers in Jasna Góra. At the same time, it is the first digitalisation of collections from the UMFC Library on such a scale.
We are glad to be able to take part in such an undertaking which is so significant of the music culture and so important for the promotion of Polish music among performers, researchers and music lovers.
